Dwarf Birch Propagation

We have been collecting Dwarf Birch seeds from remote sites in Northumberland in Autumn 2017 to germinate in our tree nurseries and donate to upland reforestation projects in the North East helping to ensure the survival of England’s rarest tree.

Dwarf Birch (Betula Nama), Wark forest, Northumberland, October 2017

Dwarf Birch is native to arctic and cool temperature regions of Greenland, Iceland, northern Europe, northern Russia and the northern parts of North America. There are small populations in Scotland and the Alps. In England there are only 4 known sites.

We will be working to ensure that Englands rarest tree is safe for generations to come in the upland areas of North East England.
